Maptek Vulcan GeologyCore streamlines the process of generating your geological models. It provides a simple and seamless way of importing and validating drillhole data, defining geological domains, and then generating and publishing your model. Repeatable steps mean you can easily experiment with changes to your domains and see the effect on the model. Vulcan GeologyCore gives you access to cutting-edge modelling techniques using cloud-based machine learning algorithms, while also providing conventional approaches such as vein modelling and implicit modelling.

Vulcan GeologyCore has been designed to integrate seamlessly with Maptek Vulcan. Manage your drillhole and mine data in Vulcan. Use Vulcan GeologyCore to validate your data, define domains and generate models, before publishing back to Vulcan to model grades and perform advanced statistical analysis.

Vulcan GeologyCore helps ensure you are making the best domaining decisions for production model size datasets across stratigraphic and metalliferous deposits.

Vulcan GeologyCore is best suited for drillhole datasets containing up to 10,000 holes. Stratigraphic deposits exhibiting many seams and splits may be better modelled using the Vulcan integrated stratigraphic modellings tools.

Vulcan GeologyCore Workflow

The Vulcan GeologyCore Workflow establishes the key steps to follow to generate and publish your geological model.

Step 1: Load Geological Data

Get started in Vulcan GeologyCore by loading some geological data.

The Load Vulcan Data tool will automatically find drillholes, legends, composites, triangulations, block model definitions and design data located in your data folder.

You can import drillholes from Vulcan Isis or ODBC link databases, or from CSV files.

Step 2: Validate the Data

Before using drillhole data in any modelling task, you need to be confident that the data is consistent and free from errors. Use Vulcan GeologyCore’s drillhole visualisation and validation tools to quickly identify and correct consistency errors in your drillhole database.

Change the drillhole visualisation to display the attributes you’re interested in, then run Vulcan GeologyCore’s automated drillhole validation tool. Correct detected errors by interacting with the drillhole in the view, or by modifying the database tables directly.

Step 3: Define Geological Domains

Once your drillhole data has been successfully validated, you can define your geological domains.

Use the domain manager to define rules for combining or splitting domains based on domain count, grade and thickness.

Use domain charts to observe the effect of your rules on the data each time you change them.

Repeat the process until you are satisfied with the domaining result.

Step 4: Generate a Model

After defining your geological domains, you can create a geological model.

Create a DomainMCF job to generate a block model using cloud-based machine learning. Alternatively, use Vulcan GeologyCore to create a traditional vein or implicit model.

Step 5: Validate the Model

Model validation is an important part of the modelling process. Validation helps ensure that a model matches the source data and reflects the geological structures being modelled.

Perform visual checks on your model using a range of tools, including section mode, juxtaposition view, and filtering.

Run numeric checks to assess the differences between the model and the source data.

Step 6: Publish the Model

Once your model is complete, you can publish it back to Vulcan for further analysis.

The publishing tool keeps track of changes you’ve made to your data, so that you only need to publish when objects are first created, or if they’ve changed since you last published.

You can publish triangulations, block models, and drillhole databases.
