Licensing Modes

The client organisation’s IT administration can set up licences to use different licensing modes to provide flexibility around predicted software use and internet connectivity.

The available licensing modes are described below.

Live mode

Live licence mode requires a continuous active internet connection because the Maptek software must periodically refresh the licence to continue working. The data requirements for this type of licence are very low.

Borrowed licences

Borrowed licence mode allows users to secure licences for their computers for a period from several hours to weeks or months (the upper limit is configured by an administrator). After the licence is checked out, no internet connection is required.

Fail-safe mode

Fail-safe licensing is a variant of live mode that allows operating without an internet connection for up to 12 hours. An IT administrator will configure the actual upper time limit. Fail-safe mode is typically used when internet is available but may be unstable.

Licence allocation example

The following diagram demonstrates an example of several scenarios associated with licence allocation in live licensing mode.

  • User 1 starts her use of software Product 02 with the desired licensing mode.

  • User 2 has already started using software Product 01. He returns to open the software and run it. Maptek Account finds an available licence for Product 01 and assigns it to User 2. The licence then becomes unavailable for other users of the group.

  • User 3 has just ended a session using software Product 03. The licence is released and Maptek Account makes it available for others to use.

  • User 4 is having trouble with his internet connection. The connection drops out long enough to cease communication with Maptek Account. As a result, the session times out, the software closes down, and the licence is automatically released back to the group.
