Automated Initial Positioning
Source file: automated-initial-positioning.htm
Unregistered scans can be registered against a reference scan by using the Automated initial positioning methods. These methods are relatively easy to use and produce a reasonably good fit for a first attempt. Once positioned the registration should be completed using Global registration.
The automated initial positioning tool requires that the scans be level or roughly level.
-
Register the reference scan.
-
View the reference and unregistered scans in a view window.
-
On the Position and Filter ribbon tab, go to the Register group. From the Automated Positioning drop-down list select
Automated Initial Positioning.
-
Select the reference and unregistered scans in the project explorer and click the
button in the Data to register section of the panel.
-
Drag the reference scan from the project explorer into the Fixed reference data section. Then Press Apply.
-
Once the registration process has completed, visually inspect the scans to ensure they are positioned correctly.
Note: If the scans do not position correctly try increasing the Sampling level, otherwise use the Assisted initial positioning method.
-
Press the Save button then close the tool by clicking
close.
-
Proceed with Global registration.
Note: The scans will be assembled with the lowest quality alignments last. Therefore, you can de-register the last scans if desired and attempt better re-registering.
An initial group of unregistered scans will align the scans automatically.
Pit scans can also be aligned automatically. On the right is the zoomed in detail of minor misalignment of edges of scans. Use global registration to fine-tune alignment of these edges.
