Import ECW

Source file: import-ecw.htm

ECW - (Enhanced Compression Wavelet) is a proprietary wavelet compression image format which is georeferenced and optimised for aerial and satellite imagery. The image can be updated as the viewer zooms in to effectively display a higher level of detail (LOD).

Importing an ECW

  1. On the Labs ribbon tab, go to the Import group and select Import ECW.

  2. Enter the file's URL.

  3. Click OK to finish.

The image is saved in the images container.

Draping an ECW image over a surface

Once imported, a raster image conversion can be exported, or draped onto a surface.

Note:  This image is a standard type of bitmap and doesn't have the same LOD capability as the original ECW file - i.e. when zooming in, the image can't increase detail.

  1. Tile and tie the image window and surface window

  2. Drag the ECW image onto the surface. The Export image panel will open.

  3. Adjust settings accordingly - whether to scale and/ or crop the image.

  4. Click OK or Apply to finish.

Tile and tie windows then drag image onto surface.

ECW image is converted to plain bitmap and draped onto surface.
