Sample Interval Specifications
Create/Edit a Sampling Specification File
Use the Sample Interval Specifications option to create a Sampling specification file (.hsn
) or, if applicable, edit an existing one. The resulting specification file can then be used to create intervals in blast holes when exporting an existing blast pattern into a nominated Isis database. Refer to the Export to Database option for more information on exporting existing blast patterns.

Click the Sample Interval Specifications button from the Drill and Blast toolbar.

On the Drill and Blast menu, point to Analysis and Reporting, and then click Sample Interval Specifications to display the Sampling specifications panel.
Sample naming specification file
Enter, or select from the drop-down list, the name of the Sampling specification file (.hsn
). The drop-down list will contain all of the .hsn
files found in your current working directory.
To create a new file, enter the file name and file extension.
Sample Intervals
Depth of first sample interval
Enter the depth of the first sample interval. This value refers to the distance from the top of the hole to the first interval value created in the database.
Sample of interval length
Enter the sample interval length. This value will be used to create regular sampling intervals at the specified distance.
Interval options
Resize final interval to match hole length
Select this option to resize the final interval to match the hole length, that is, the final interval value in the database is changed to match the remaining hole length.
Resize hole depth to match sample interval
Select this option to change the hole depth to finish at the end of an interval.
Naming
Sample prefix
Enter the sample prefix. This value will be used to prefix the sample number in the database.
Start sample number
Enter the sample start number. This value will be used as the first number to be added to the database. Check the Remember last sample number used check box to continue on from the last number entered when you next export a blast. If this check box is checked, then the specification file will be updated after each export with the new sample start number.
Zero fill sample names to
Select this check box to use zeroes to fill in the hole names. You will need to specify the number of characters that you want to use.
Example: If you specify that you want to use 3 characters, then A1
will become A001
and A21
will become A021
.
Naming options
Continuous sample numbering
This is the default options. Select this option is you want continuous sample numbering for each hole. The entire pattern will have unique sample numbers. For example, if the last sample in the first hole was SAMP014, then the first sample on the second hole will be SAMP015.
Restart sample numbering for each hole
Select this option is you want to restart the sample numbering for each hole. This option allows restarting sample numbering for each hole. For example, if the start number is 1, then the first sample on every hole will be SAMP001.
Click OK.
The specification file is then created or, if applicable, updated.
