Load

Use the Load option to load existing design database layers into the current window. You can also load layers through using the List option, as well as the Vulcan Explorer application.

Instructions

On the File menu, point to Layers, and then click Load to display the Load Layer panel.

Enter the layer name

Select the layer than you want to load. The drop-down list contains the names of all layers found in the currently open design database

Wildcards (*multi-character and % single character) can be used to load multiple layers.

For example, if you have three objects in three layers (for example 'Layer1', 'Layer2' and 'Layer3'), then all three objects could be selected by typing 'Layer*'.

To select layers from design databases other than the open design database, but still in your current working directory, precede the layer name with the spatial database identifier and a colon (<sdi>).

For example, t ype 'TOPO:*' to select all layers in the TOPO design databse.

To select layers from design databases that are not in your current working directory, precede the layer name with the environment variable (that points to the required directory), a greater than sign (>), the spatial database identifier and a : (colon).

For example, type 'TEST>TOPO:*' to select all layers in the TOPO design database that resides in a data area pointed to by the TEST environment variable.

The above format assumes that the other databases have the same project code sa the open database. If this is not the case, then precede the format with an '_' (underscore) and the project code.

For example, type '_ABCTOPO:*' where ABC = project code and TOPO = spatial databse identifier.

Layers selected from other design databases are saved in the open design database when you exit Vulcan whether they have been edited or not. If you don't want these layers saved in the open databse, then load them as underlays (using the File > Underlays > Load Layer option) or clear them before saving (using the Remove option)

Note:   If you try to load a layer from a design database other than the open database and it has the same name as a layer in the open database, then you will be warned of this fact and asked whether you want to Replace the layer in the open databse, Append to the layer in the open databse or to Cancel the option.

Click OK.
