Create Dragline Section Arrows and Dragline Section Layers

The Create option to create dragline section arrows. The section arrows are what the Dragline module uses to define your range diagram section planes. The direction of the arrow indicates the mining direction. Each arrow (and its label) is created in its own layer, according to the naming convention:

Layer name: <spec_file_id>_<section_number>

Object name: SEC_<section_number>

The section number starts at 1 and increases with each section arrow you create (the number is zero packed in both names, so that both are always 10 alphanumeric characters in length). With the section arrows created in this way, it becomes clear that the Dragline module stores each range diagram design, in its own layer.

Before creating your section arrows, you will need to know where you want them to be, with a previously designed layout of section lines at a suitable datum level. For the Dragline module, a good datum level is one just below the bottom of your pit. Another consideration is to ensure that your section lines are long enough to allow creation of all your strips and blocks and to allow spoiling beyond the pit extents. You can design the layout of your section lines using the Working and Define options in combination. Alternatively, you may create a layout of two-point, horizontal line segments (using options from the Design main menu) to define your section lines.

Instructions

On the Dragline menu, point to Sections, and then click Create.

Once selected, you will then be prompted to select one of your previously defined section lines.

If a Dragline specifications file (.rsp) was not opened prior to selecting this option, then the Open Dragline Specification panel displays first.

Open Dragline Specification panel

Spec file name

Enter, or select from the drop-down list, the <spec_file_id> part of the dragline specifications file name. The maximum size is 6 alphanumeric characters. Selecting a name from the drop-down list will open an existing specifications file. Entering a new name will create a new specifications file.

Click OK.

As soon as you select a section line, a dragline section layer is created and the dragline section arrow is created in the layer (if the arrow points in the wrong direction, then you may need to reverse the direction of the section line you selected).

You will then be prompted to select another section line. Cancel, when finished creating arrows. With section arrows created, you are then able the set the current section using the Set Current or Advance Current options. You can also alter the appearance of the arrows (and their labels) using the Attributes option.
