Overview
This section describes the options under the Section submenu.
The options available through the Section submenu are used for 2D slope stability analysis, and allow you to:
- Design reference section lines.
- Create profiles of triangulated geological surfaces.
- Plot and annotate 2D sections.
- Export and import section design data to and from Galena.
Profiles can be created by selecting them from the surfaces currently loaded in Vulcan, or through using a list of surfaces stored in the <proj>strata.hzl file. The latter simplifies the setting of plot attributes or plot features to the surfaces.
Refer to Appendix A for more information on the .hzl file.
The Galena interface requires a Galena parameter file (<proj>.gal) that contains the configuration details. These details are listed in Appendix A together with an example. The interface may be operated using feature codes to identify surfaces, and creating special surfaces such as the phreatic and failure surfaces.
Some of the Section options are available in Plan View only, others in Section View. Messages to this effect are displayed when selecting such an option. Options that are available in both views may have different functionality depending on the view you are in.
There is also another Section Design module under Open Pit. The main differences between the Geotech Section and Section Design modules are shown in the table below.
| Geotech Section Design | Open Pit Section Design |
| Galena Import Export | Not available |
| Profiling triangulations | Profiling triangulations and grid models |
| Section lines generation for triangulation models | Section lines generation for both triangulation and grid model surfaces |
| Not available | Cut & Fill Calculations |
