Values in Vulcan Field Survey files (.vff) are column formatted and begin with a 4 character record type followed by a space. Header records can either contain no value or a single value, while data records contain a series of tag and value pairs (depending on the record type). A comment record will have an asterisk (*) in the first column.

| ONBG | Set to TRUE if horizontal angles are adjusted to be bearings. | |

| STN |
Contains the coordinates of the station used in the pickup, For example, instrument, backsight, resected etc.

| OCC |
Defines the location of the instrument.
If the scale and setup type entries are missing, then the scale will be set to '1.0' and the "Known Backsight" setup type will be used. |

Backsight record. This record should follow the OCC record, otherwise the survey is assumed on-bearing.

Single shot record (point of interest).

| MS |
Multiple shot record. This is a special record type that defines how to interpret the SS records that follow.
The order of faces can be;
This record is followed by a series of single shot (SS) records. The IDs from the first set of face 1 shots will define the actual point names. |
