Edit Codes

Create/Edit a Geotechnical Specification file

The Edit Codes option to edit an existing Geotechnical Specification file (.gtc) or, if applicable, create one in your current working directory.

The following naming convention is used when creating a new Geotechnical Specification file:

<proj>.gtc

where <proj> refers to the project code. An example specification file is provided under Appendixes A of the Geotech documentation. Geotechnical Specification files are listed under the Other folder of the Vulcan Explorer application.

Instructions

On the Geotech menu, point to Utilities, then click Edit Codes.

The fields in the Structural Code Editor panel will be populated according to the contents of the associated Geotechnical Specification file (.gtc). If a specification file does not exist in your current working directory, then the fields in the displayed panel will be left blank.

The Structural Code Editor panel will also only load the specification file that has a file name matching the project code of the currently open Project Specification file (.dg1). Therefore, if there are 2 specification files in the current working directory (for example demo.gtc and dez.gtc), and the project code is demo, then the contents of demo.gtc will be used to populate the Structural Code Editor panel.

Tip

The panel utilises grid controls to manage the grid information, i.e. right-click context menus, that allow you to perform options such as hiding columns, cutting, copying, and pasting cells, and inserting and deleting rows. Right-click in the grid area to display the context menu. Descriptions of the available options are listed below.

Specify colours

Select this check box to specify a colour for each of the listed structure codes. If this checkbox is not ticked, then each structure will be coloured according to the values for the dip and strike fields in the structural database. Therefore, you must set up a dip and strike colour legend in the Geotech colour scheme in order to display the structural data in the appropriate colours.

The Specify colours checkbox needs to be ticked if you want to use the Use structure colours checkbox (see Set Up 3D Display option).

Code

Enter the structure code. This value refers to the value listed in the TYPE field of your structural database.

Structure

Specify the type of object that will be used when displaying each structure. These may be any of the 3D structural data display types from the table below.

Description

Enter a description for the structure. These descriptions are used by the panels that are displayed through the options under the Geotech > Display and Geotech > Analysis submenu, for example the Limited Selection Criteria and Manual Entry of Structural Data panels. Each description may be up to 40 alphanumeric characters in length.

Colour

Select the colour that will be used to represent the associated structure code. This field will only be available when the Specify colours checkbox has been enabled. The colour will be selected from the current colour table.

Select OK.
