Transform Grid

Use Transform Grid to redefine a grid origin and grid size. The grid extent is also modified appropriately. You cannot arbitrarily alter the grid range, but you can shift the grid by altering its origin. The grid size can also be scaled, allowing you to move the grid from one set of units to another, for example metres to kilometres, or yards to feet. The grid cell size must divide evenly into the X and Y ranges.

Note:   The grid cannot be rotated, as may be required when moving from one coordinate system to another.

Instructions

On the Grid Calc menu, point to Grids, and then click Transform Grid to display the Redefine panel.

New Origin

Enter the coordinates for the origin. The entire grid will be shifted so the grid origin falls at the new location.

Scale factor

Enter the scaling factor to use when multiplying the grid size and the grid dimensions.

For example, if the grid was 100 x 200 metres, and the grid size was 10 metres, then a scale of 3 would change this to 300 x 600 metres, and the grid size to 30 metres.

Click OK.

The grid is then redefined.

Use the Save Grid option to save the grid or type the following at the Grid Calc command line:

save <gfi>.<mv>

Use the Static Display Grid or Dynamic Display Grid options (under the Grid Calc > Display submenu) to display the grid. You can also type the following through the Grid Calc command line, type:

plot
