Opening a Design Database

Before any work can be started, a design database must be opened. If a design database is specified in your project/job specification file (.dg1), then this file will be opened when Vulcan is started.

If a default database has not been specified, then you will need to open one through using the File > Design Files > Open or File > Design Files > List Files options. You can also open a design database through the Vulcan Explorer application. To do this, right-click on the database name and select Open from the displayed context menu.

If the design database is open and editable, then an open lock icon displays beside its name in the Vulcan Explorer application.

If your project/job specification file (.dg1) references a library design database from an earlier version of Vulcan, i.e. the file uses the .dgd file extension, then you will be asked to convert the file to the new Vulcan 9 format. The converted design database will actually be a copy of your original design database.

Refer to the File > Design Files > Convert option for more information on converting design databases.
