Import Survey Data

The Survey Link option starts the TDS Survey Link software package. This package is developed by Tripod Data Systems (TDS) and any support queries regarding the Survey Link package should be directed to TDS at http://www.tdsway.com. The package is used to send data back and forth between your computer and the data collector.

Survey Link can receive information from most data collectors and converts that data to a usable format for Vulcan. Survey Link to edit, transfer and view data. It also gives Vulcan users the flexibility to use their choice of survey equipment and import that data. If a specific data collector is not listed in Survey Link, then a generic data collector can be chosen and used. Survey Link enables virtually seamless data transfer and formatting.

When data has been sent from the collector to the computer, and its format verified, save the reduced file to an ASCII file with the file extension. asc.

Instructions

• Select Survey menu
• Select TDS submenu
• Select Survey Link option

When the option is selected, the following menu from Survey Link displays.

• Select Transfer menu

• Select Send/Receive option
• Select Receive tab

• Select the Data Collector or Total Station from the drop-down list
• Select Setup to verify that the correct Port, Parity and Baud rate is used

• Select OK on the Setup panel
• Select Receive on the Transfer panel
• Select Send from the Data Collector

The following process indicator appears, indicating that program is attempting to receive information from the Data Collector

After the file transfer is complete, the data must be converted to ASCII format.

• Select Conversions from the main menu

• Select Convert File Format...

• Select the Input type and the Output type of file format
• Select Convert
• OK
