Creating Anchored Model Revisions

Revisions allow you to store changes made to your anchor file inside Evolution. They can be thought of as snapshots of edits made to the data and are visible on the server. As server files can be accessed by several users, revisions provide a kind of version control to ensure all users can access any file updates. You are also able to switch between revisions. This is beneficial to check older data, review different revision schedules or simply experiment with other file versions. Explore the sections below to make and view revisions and their schedules.

Making a Revision

To make a new revision, follow the steps below.

Note:  

When you create and open an anchored model, you are operating on revision 0.

  1. Right-click on the anchored model in the Model folder.

  2. Select Create new revision... from the context menu. If this option is greyed out, then you must first make a change to the model.

    You will receive a notification when the revision has been successfully added to the server model. The changes can now be accessed out of Evolution.

Viewing and Changing Revisions

To view all revisions or change to a different revision, follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click on the anchored model in the Model folder.

  2. Select Change revision... from the context menu.

    A window displaying all the revisions will appear.

  3. Select the revision you wish to change to and click OK.

    After loading this revision, a Summary of Changes tab will be displayed. This illustrates the differences between your previous revision and the one you are changing to. Confirm these changes by clicking OK and a success notification will be displayed once this change is complete.

    Note: Highlighting your file in Vulcan Data Manager will also allow you to see all the revisions.

Schedules for Multiple Revisions

You can create a schedule for a single revision in the regular way. However, to create multiple schedules from multiple revisions, follow the steps below:

  1. Submit your first revision to the server. You can do this by navigating to Home > Scheduling > Validate and then clicking Run.

  2. Change to another desired revision by following the steps in the View and Change a Revision section.

  3. Select Validate and Run to create a schedule for this new revision.

  4. Once generated, both of these schedules can be downloaded by following the steps in Generate a Schedule. You can open the schedule report by double-clicking on the schedule file.

    When you open a schedule of a certain revision, the same revision of the model is also loaded. This can be confirmed by checking the View Manager toolbar which displays details such as the model name and its revision number.
