Glossary

    C
  • An object in the project that can contain other objects. Standard containers are the default location many objects are saved to when they are first created.
  • A connection of points between drillholes which the data suggests represent the same horizon.
  • D
  • The task of ensuring that drillhole data is consistent and free of errors. Learn more about drillhole validation in Step 2 of the GeologyCore Workflow—Validate the Data.
  • M
  • A control appearing in a view allowing dynamic transformation of an object. Manipulators often appear as coloured arrows, squares, rings, handles, or spheres.
  • P
  • A Vulcan GeologyCore project is a local store of your data. A project is stored physically on disk in a database folder with a .maptekdb extension. Most data that you load into Vulcan GeologyCore is imported as a copy, although some data can be imported as a live link back to the source file(s).
  • A hierarchical listing of the contents of a project. The project explorer can be used to browse, organise, and select objects in the project.
  • R
  • A window that displays textual summaries of operations, including warnings and errors.
  • A collection of named toolbars, called ribbon menus, each containing a set of related tools and controls. The ribbon appears at the top of the application. Click on a named menu tab on the ribbon to show the tools on that ribbon menu.
  • S
  • A unit vector associated with every face of a surface, which is used to encode the sense of "up/down", "inside/outside", or "front/back". Some tools require that surfaces have consistent normals, i.e. adjacent faces need to be all up or down (not both), inside or outside (not both), or front or back (not both).
  • T
  • Helper objects that temporarily appear in the view to provide extra information about the data are called transient objects. They are not represented in the project explorer.
