To Register Unreferenced Scans

Scan registration is used to position scans correctly relative to known coordinates.

To register unreferenced scans, you must have reference data that has overlapping areas with the unreferenced scan, then:

  1. Load the scan to be registered into a new view window.

  2. Load the reference data into a separate view window and tile the windows or Ctrl + B. To learn how to tie windows to each other click here.

  3. Translate the data using a common reference point in the scan and the reference data.

  4. Rotate the scan using the common reference point as the centre of rotation.

  5. Use Filter > Range to filter the data to improve the speed and accuracy of the registration.

  6. Register the data using Register  > Global .

Note:  If the scans do not appear to be correct after registration or there are levelling issues, connecting points prior to registration can improve the accuracy of the final result. Select overlapping points on the floor and walls and connect using Edit > Scan connectivity > Smart connect .
