Washability Appendix A: Metafile Structure

The metafile produced by a normal standardisation process is automatically generated by the Inquisitor run for that process. However, the system also allows the user to provide their own generated metafiles. This appendix discusses about the required and optional structures of a metafile to allow for the production of a file by a third-party query and reporting package.

The file is a standard text file consisting of one record per line (line can be either newline separated, or carriage-return newline). The fields (tokens) on the line are whitespace separated (in the automatically generated versions, they are space separated and formatted to allow them to be human-readable).

The appendix is divided into three segments, namely:

Specimen

A specimen of the metafile structure taken from real data.

Metafile Record Hierarchy

A list of records and tokens (fields) in the metafile.

Description of Records and Tokens

A detailed description of the records and tokens in the metafile.
