Name By Coordinate
Apply a name to an object from the coordinate or value
The Name By Coordinate option to apply a name to a specific object or to all objects in a group, feature or layer with the name being the X, Y, or Z coordinate of the first point in the object or the object's value.
This option is designed to work with the Analyse > Details > Polygon Area option, which calculates areas and volumes. Setting an object's name (for example a dam contour polygon) to its elevation value will allow the Polygon Area option to report both the volume and area of the polygon.
Instructions
On the Design menu, point to Attribute Edit, and then click Name By Coordinate.
The Multiple Selection box displays. Use the Multiple Selection box to choose your method of selecting objects and select the objects.
Upon selection of the objects, the Label By dialog box displays. Use the Multiple Selection box to select the coordinate (X, Y, Z) or the object's value with which to name the objects.
Each of the coordinate options will name the object with the appropriate coordinate of the first point in the object (the first point is the first point in the digitising sequence). The Value option will name the object with its value.
The new name is then applied.
Tip: Preselected design data can be used with this option, i.e., objects are selected prior to running the option. Using preselected data will allow you to bypass the Multiple Selection box.
