Overview

A construction point is a graphical representation of any defined 3D (X, Y, Z) point in space. As such they may be "picked" when in "snap" mode in Vulcan, thus providing an exact 3D coordinate position without typing the coordinates at the creation of the data. Construction points have the highest priority in the snap sequence.

Construction points are not data points (although they can be derived from data points). Construction points can be created in several ways (for example every 5 metres along a line etc.), but once created they cannot be edited (apart from deletion). Quite often construction points can be treated like temporary data locations, for example along a line joining two data points where we don't want to add in extra data.

Notes
  • The Select option, which in previous versions allowed you to highlight the points on a nominated object, has been removed from the Construction Points submenu. If you want to highlight points, click on the object or use the "rubber band" technique,.i.e. hold down the left mouse button and drag a rectangle around the desired data.
  • The construction points are created in the highlight colour. This colour is set through the Graphics : Colours section of the Tools > Preferences option.
