Convert Text to a Point

The Text To Point option to convert numeric text to a point. The point will have an X and Y coordinate corresponding to the origin of the text (bottom-left corner) and a Z coordinate corresponding to the numeral stated in the numeric text that is'275.6' will convert to a point with a Z value of 275.6.

This option is usually used for survey data that comes in as text. Converting the numeric text to points allows it to be used in triangulation/grid creation.


Instructions

  • Select Design menu
  • Select Text Edit submenu
  • Select Text To Point option

You will be asked whether to replace text with a point or to generate a point. Replace text with point replaces the selected text with points. Generate point generates points that are placed in a specified layer, hence the original text is retained.

Once the required option has been selected, the Multiple Selection box displays. Use the Multiple Selection box to choose your method of selecting objects and select the objects.

If you are generating points, then you will need to specify the layer into which to place the points. If the layer exists and is loaded, then the points will be appended to the current content. If it exists and is not loaded, then you will be asked whether or not to overwrite the current contents.

The points are then generated or, if applicable, the text is converted.
