Project to Surface

This option allows line and polygon data to be projected (in the 2D plane) onto a topographic surface. This can be useful if, for example, you are creating a topographic surface and want to use the Split surface along edge constraints option.

  1. On the Edit ribbon tab navigate to the Project group and select Project to Surface.

  2. Select the Target surface for the lines and or polygons.

  3. Select lines and or polygons to project.

  4. Select the Crop to surface boundary to trim the lines at the surface boundary. The polygons will be "shrunk" to fit the outer edge of the surface.

  5. Optionally, selecting the Project a copy checkbox will project a copy of the surface.

  6. Click OK or Apply.

The line or polygon will be draped to the selected surface.

Below is an example of an applied projection to a polygon outside the surface boundary.

The following example shows the result if the Crop to surface boundary checkbox had NOT been selected.
