Tutorial - Pit Optimiser Charting and Reporting

P redefined pit-by-pit graphs or period-by-period charts simplify the configuration of the charts, reducing the amount of customisation required in Excel.


Opening Your Data File in Vulcan

Dataset for this tutorial is in the PitOptimiserData.7z folder. (click the link to download the dataset).

The Pit Optimiser tutorials use a specification file named demo.opf. This file contains a financial setup that includes three products, a mill and leach process, and five rock types. The three products are molybdenum and two distinct copper products, which represent differences due to the leach and mill process. Optimisation uses a single slope region at 37 degrees, and 11 revenue factors from 0.75 to 1.25. A basic analysis scenario has been provided.

P it Optimiser Charting and Reporting

  1. Select Block > Pit Optimiser > Edit.
  2. Click the Open Specification branch and set the following parameters:
    • Select demo.opf from the Load specification file list. If you did not save the specification file in the previous tutorial, the warning regarding the assignment of default Scenario IDs will display again.
    • Click OK to accept.
  1. Click the Report branch and set the following parameters:
  • Click the Browse icon in the Classify Report By column to display the Classify Report By panel.
  • Select Pit Increment from the list.

    In the next line, select Bench from the list.

    Click OK to return to the Pit Optimiser panel.

  • Click the Browse icon in the Variables column to display the Reports Columns panel.
  • In the first row, select Rock from the Report Column list and select the Normal Best check box.

    In the second row, select Cash flow from the Report Column list and select the Normal Best check box.

    Click OK to return to the Pit Optimiser panel.

  1. Click the Charts branch and set the following parameters:
  • Select Pit by Pit from the Charts Type list.
  • Click the Browse icon in the Charts Details column to display the Charts Details panel.
  • Review the information on the Overview tab to see what information will be included on the chart.
  • Click the Details tab.
  • In a new line, select Cash flow from the Y Variable list, Best from the Case list, Line from the Type list, and Secondary Axis from the Axis list. Then select a colour for the line in the Colour column.
  • Click OK to return to the Pit Optimiser panel.

In a new line, select Period by Period from the Chart Type list.

Click the Browse icon in the Chart Details column to display the Chart Details panel.

  • Review the information on the Chart Details panel.
  • Click OK to return to the Pit Optimiser panel.
  1. Click the Save & Run branch.
  • Clear the Optimisation check box.
  • Select the Analysis check box.
  • Click Run.
  • Click OK to confirm that you want to overwrite the demo.opf file.

The Pit Optimiser Analysis process runs in the Pit Optimiser Analysis window. A Microsoft Excel document containing the carts and graphs that you specified will open.

Note: If Excel does not open automatically, verify that the Open Excel on completion check box is selected on the Analysis branch of the Pit Optimiser panel.
