Measurements

The Measurements group includes tools for managing terrain and stockpile models. These help ensure that the ground and stockpile models accurately reflect the latest surveyed or designed topography and volume measurements. It also includes tools for comparing grade in a resource model with results supplied from the lab or analyser. The following tools are summarised below:

Terrain Management

Manage and update the terrain surfaces as up-to-date models become available. To learn more, see Terrain Maintenance.

Stockpile Surfaces

Manage and import stockpile surfaces as up-to-date models become available. To learn more, see Stockpile Surfaces.

Lab Results

Examine and modify lab results from a selected shift based on any material property of interest. To learn more, see Lab and Analyser Results.

Analyser Results

Examine and modify analyser results from a selected shift based on any material property of interest. To learn more, see Lab and Analyser Results.

Terrain Maintenance

The Measurements - Terrain Surface Maintenance page is used to manage and update the base terrain (the ground surface) in the mine environment. It supports importing new survey surfaces, ensuring that the ground model accurately reflects the latest surveyed or designed topography. This is crucial for accurate placement of stockpile cuboid blocks with respect to the base surface.

Viewing and managing existing surfaces

To display data in the Terrain Maintenance page, select the Manage tab then select a time interval using the Date Time Picker. You can move forwards or backwards to previous or subsequent intervals to view terrain surfaces that have been imported at different times. When available, surfaces are listed in a table along with related information about each terrain surface file, such as import time and source.

  • Hover over a row in the table to highlight the terrain surface in the viewer.

In the viewer, surfaces appear as polygons overlaid on the terrain, allowing you to visually assess and compare the ground surface with the current terrain.

Searching and filtering the surface files table

To find items in the table, enter keywords in the search field. You can also select which columns to include using the Displaying x / x columns drop-down.

Deleting terrain surfaces

To delete an obsolete terrain surface, select its row in the table and click Delete surface. When prompted, click Delete to confirm.

Adding and selecting new terrain surfaces to import

Select the Import tab, in here a drop zone accepts files formatted as .00t, .maptekobj, .dxf, or .obj. Click inside the drop zone to open a file explorer, then select the files, or drag them in. As files are added, they appear as tiles in the drop zone and a list is also created. The search bar allows you to filter your list if many files are added.

  • Remove a file that you don’t want to import by hovering over its tile in the drop zone then clicking Remove surface.

  • Remove one or more files by selecting in the list then clicking Clear Selected. Selected files are removed from the list and drop zone.

  • Click Clear All to remove all files from the list and drop zone.

Importing terrain surface files

To add terrain surface files to the system, select them from the list, then click Import Selected to immediately upload them. A notification is posted for each surface that is applied.

Stockpile Surfaces

The Measurements - Stockpile Surfaces page is used to manage stockpile surfaces. These surfaces represent surveyed stockpiles, enabling MaterialMRT to incorporate the latest measured stockpile data into the material model.

After uploading a stockpile surface, you must assign various surface properties (such as density),  which affect the way the surveyed data is incorporated into the material model. You can also assign any number of custom material properties to the surface; these are inherited by any new material created in the model. After uploading and assigning properties, stockpile surfaces need to be explicitly applied before they will be incorporated into the material model.

The stockpile surface table on the page lists details of uploaded stockpile surfaces, including surface application status. The in-page viewer can be used to view individual surfaces, while a separate properties pane can be used to view and edit the properties of individual or multiple surfaces.

Uploading stockpile surfaces

To upload stockpile surfaces, click . In the file dialog that opens, select one or more files in .00t, .maptekobj, .dxf, or .obj formats. Alternatively, drag files from a file explorer anywhere onto the page.

Once uploaded, the stockpile surface will appear in the stockpile surface table.

Stockpile surface table

The stockpile surface table lists the details of stockpile surfaces that were uploaded within a given date range.

  • Use the Date Time Picker field to select a date-time interval. The table will display only surfaces uploaded within the specified range.

  • Use the Filter field to display only surfaces whose Name or Uploaded By fields contains a specified string.

Each row of the table displays the details of a single stockpile surface, including when it was uploaded, who uploaded it, and when it was applied.

  • To download a stockpile surface, click the button in its row.

  • Hover over the icon in the Status column to see the status of the surface. The status for applied surfaces reports the missing and excess volumes of the stockpile surface when compared with the existing stockpile.

  • Select the Available for Cross Section checkbox to flag the surface as available for use with the cross section tool in the viewer. See Viewer > Using the cross section tool for how to use the cross section tool.

  • To delete a single stockpile surface, click the Delete surface button in its row. When prompted click Delete to confirm.

  • To delete multiple surfaces, select their checkboxes and click .

Viewing stockpile surfaces

You can view individual stockpile surfaces in the in-page viewer by clicking on a row in the table.

Tip:  If you cannot see the viewer, it is hidden. Drag the screen divider to show it.

In the viewer, click the metric scheme button to enable one of the following modes:

  • metric scheme Default displays the shape of the stockpile surface in a single colour.

  • metric scheme Created and Removed shows where material has been dumped or removed by comparing the stockpile material before and after the stockpile surface was applied. The material is coloured based on the degree of excess or missing volume.

Setting surface properties

Each stockpile surface has associated surface properties that affect how it is incorporated into existing material when applied. See Applying stockpile surfaces on this page for more information on the effects of applying a surface.

  • To view or modify the surface properties of one or more surfaces, select their checkboxes in the table. The Surface Properties tab displays the properties of selected surfaces, explained below.

    Density Enter the bulk density appropriate for the stockpile material—derived from site tests, historical averages, published values, or calculated as D=W/V, if the mass (W) and volume (V) are known. This ensures a reliable conversion from scan-based volume to stockpile mass in MaterialMRT.
    Minimum volume multiplier The maximum compression factor applied to material when fitting the surface.
    Maximum volume multiplier The maximum swell factor applied to material when fitting the surface.
    Minimum material density The minimum density value for material expanded while fitting the surface.
    Maximum material density The maximum density value for material compressed while fitting the surface.
    Maximum allowed variation
    from existing material
    If the vertical distance between the material model and the surface is less than the value entered, the material model will not be adjusted at this point.
    Maximum allowed variation
    from terrain
    If there is no existing material and the vertical distance between the terrain and the surface is less than the value entered, the material model will not be adjusted at this point.
    Maximum horizontal distance
    to move material
    The maximum distance material can be relocated when fitting the surface.

    Tip:  You can bulk edit the properties of multiple surfaces at once. If selected surfaces have a different value for any property, the value will be empty and a warning icon () will appear next to that property.

  • Click Save to save your changes.

Setting surface material properties

Material properties are user-defined characteristics or values associated with material in the material model. These properties are first assigned to a stockpile surface and then inherited by material created when that surface is applied. See Applying stockpile surfaces on this page for more information on the effects of applying a surface.

  • To set the material properties of one or more stockpile surfaces, select the checkboxes for the surfaces you want to modify, then configure their properties in the Material Properties tab that appears.

    Tip:  You can bulk edit the properties of multiple surfaces at once. If selected surfaces have a different value for any property, the value will be empty and a warning icon () will appear next to that property.

  • Click Add to show or hide material properties. Select the checkbox for any property you wish to add or modify. Clear the checkbox to hide properties from the panel.

    Note:  The properties that appear in the Add list are managed in the Material Properties Schema.

  • Click Copy to copy material properties from an existing stockpile or surface.

    In the Copy Material Properties dialog that opens, select either Copy from Stockpile or Copy from Scan, and then select the name of the stockpile or surface you wish to copy from. The properties for the stockpile or surface will display. Click Ok to copy the properties.

    Note:  Only properties that have already been added to surfaces will have their values copied across.

  • Use the Filter field to display only material properties matching a specified string.

  • Modify any listed material property as desired, then click Save to save your changes.

Applying stockpile surfaces

An uploaded surface needs to be explicitly applied to be incorporated into the material model. You can see the status of whether a surface has been applied by inspecting the Status and Applied Time columns in the table.

  • To apply one or more stockpile surfaces, select the checkboxes for the surfaces you want to apply, then click Apply.

Effects of applying a stockpile surface

If a stockpile surface is applied to an area with no existing material, a stockpile matching the shape of the surface will be created with the configured density and material properties. If a stockpile already exists, it will—within the limits configured in the surface properties—swell or compress, move laterally, and have material added or removed to match the applied surface.

Newly added material inherits the density and material properties of the stockpile surface, while the density and material properties of existing material remain unchanged.

Lab and Analyser Results

Both pages use a table-like layout where each row represents a zone or sink—such as a crusher, conveyor, or other destination. For each row, a horizontal time bar depicts the shift. Along these bars, sample results—lab analyses or analyser readings—are visualised as coloured segments. Each segment represents a specific sampling interval, such as 6-hourly for laboratory samples, and more frequently for analyser samples. The segment colours follow the colour map assigned to the relevant assayed property, making material property changes and trends immediately visible by time and operational zone.

Populating Lab or Analyser results

To view analyser or lab results follow these steps:

  1. In MeasurementsMeasurements, select either Lab resultsLab Results or Analyser ResultsAnalyser Results, whichever is the sample data to inspect.

  2. Select the shift from its drop-down. Lab or analyser samples will appear as segments along the timeline for the zone where samples were taken.

  3. In the Colour By drop-down, select the property to display. The samples will appear as processing cycle segments along the timeline for the zone where the samples were taken.

    • Hover over a segment to open a tooltip showing the quantity of numeric, text, list, and time properties, in the above order. For example, 10/2/1/0 is for 10 numeric properties, 2 text properties, 1 list property, and no time properties.

    • Click any segment to open the results panel. It also serves as an editor, allowing information to be changed as needed. Fields with light-shaded headers cannot be changed.

      Properties are fully editable. This enables you to apply corrections as needed, insert new test results, or compensate for missing or late samples. To modify a property, enter a new value in its field. To add a property, click New Lab/analyser result under the numeric or text property category, then select the property and enter its value. To remove a property, click Remove property. When any changes are made, click Save to update the system.

Manually adding lab or analyser results

Additional lab or analyser results can be added as needed by clicking New Lab/analyser result to open an results panel with no assigned properties or attributes. To add your test results, enter all required values, including the lab or analyser name, and the Start time and End Time. To enter Numeric or Text properties, click New numeric/text property to select it and enter its value. After you have entered all the required information, click Save to update it to the system.
