Triangle Edit menu contents
This section provides a summary of the Triangle Edit submenu and its available options.
The Analyse Triangles option generates simple statistics (such as area and surface area) on the triangles (facets) in a triangulation. This information can be used to locate and analyse any problem areas in the triangulation.
The Analyse Vertices option generates statistics on the points in a triangulation. This information can be used to locate and analyse any problem areas in the triangulation.
The Problem Areas option highlights triangles (facets) and edges that do not meet a required tolerance (minimum edge length and/or angle). This information can be used to examine areas that may have been the cause of erroneous results in other applications.
Use the Dump option to dump triangulation information, such as points, triangle objects and centroids, into either an underlay or design layer. Dumping various attributes of a triangulation enables you to take advantage of the design data editing and labelling tools.
Use the Filter option to reduce the size and complexity of triangulations by removing triangles that meet specified criteria.
Use the Simple Outlier option to delete outlier vertices and all triangles (facets) connected to them from a triangulation.
The Small Triangles option to delete triangles (facets) that do not meet a required area or angle tolerance. This option will delete the vertices connected to the triangles and patch up the holes that have been left in the triangulation.
Use the Clip by Polygon option to clip a triangulation to either one or a series of polygons. Triangles (facets) are deleted depending on whether they are totally inside or totally outside the selected polygon(s).
Use the Snap Vertices option to snap vertices together if they lie in a specified distance of each other. This will close triangulations with numerical inaccuracies and remove very small triangles (facets).
The Connect Vertices option will repair triangulations with an invalid topology.
Use the Delete Crossing Triangles option to remove crossing, i.e. self intersecting, triangles (facets).
Use the Interpolate option to add points and triangles (facets) to a triangulation thus creating a more regular mesh.
Use the Extrapolate option to extend a triangulated surface beyond the known data region.
Use the Line Split option to add points and triangles (facets) to a triangulation thus creating a more regular mesh.
Use the Add Vertex option to insert a vertex into a triangulation.
Use the Delete Vertex option to remove a vertex from a triangulation.
Use the Flip Triangles option to flip the display of triangles (facets).
Use the To Grid Mesh option to construct a grid mesh model from a triangulation.
Use the From Triangles option to convert triangular design objects (created through the Dump option) into triangulations.
Use the Update with points option to update triangulations using points digitised or by selecting an origin to get the points.
