Points

The Points tool ( Alt+P) enables you to create point sets to manipulate or add to existing data, as follows:

Tip:  Create points while in top view or action plane front view , or use snap modes to ensure they are placed in the intended locations.

1. On the Create tab, in the Draw group, select Points from the Points drop-down list.

   

2. On the status bar, enter the coordinates of the first point and click (Accept content), or pick a location in the view window to auto-fill the fields.

   Tip:  Initially the points will be created on the action plane. Enter a Z value to place the point in the 3D space.

3. Repeat step 2 to enter as many more points as required.

   

4. Complete the sequence by either right-clicking, clicking (Complete) in the status bar, or pressing Enter.

   The points become one object and are saved in the cad container. The tool is also reset and ready for new entries.

5. When finished with the tool, click (Cancel) or press Esc to close the tool.

The Survey Points tool (Alt+U) enables you to create survey points to label features for identification, as follows:

1. On the Create tab, in the Draw group, select Survey Points from the Points drop-down list.

   The Create Survey Points panel will open with the Survey container and Station name fields populated with default values. If these are satisfactory, skip to step 4.

   

2. (Optional) Select the Survey container location in one of the following ways:

   • Select a folder from the drop-down.

   • Drag the destination container with the middle mouse button from the project explorer into the Survey container field.

   • Click the button to go up one container level.

3. (Optional) Enter a name for the survey station in the Station name field.

4. Enter the new station's coordinates by doing one of the following:

   • Click in one of the Station location fields, then pick the required location in the view window.

     Note:  If you pick a data point in the view window, its coordinates will be entered. Otherwise the coordinates will be on the action plane. You can also use snap modes to project coordinates onto the action plane.

   • Type the coordinates into the Station location X, Y and Z fields then click the button.

     This creates the survey point and increments the chosen station name.

5. To add more survey points, pick their locations in the view window, clicking the button after each one.

   Tip:  If you need to use different station names, repeat step 3 before picking the points.

6. When you have finished, close the Create Survey Points tool by pressing Esc or clicking the button.
