Structure
The Metafile Record Hierarchy shows the required relationship of the different line types. The line type is given by the first token on the line, starting at the first non-whitespace character and ending at colon; for example, HOLE_REC:, SEAM:, INTERCEPT:, etc.
Comment Lines
There may be any number of comment lines at the start of the file (and they may appear throughout the file, if required). A comment line is defined as any line starting with an asterisk. The whole of that line is considered to be a comment until the newline terminator (NL or CR-NL) is encountered and will be skipped in the processing. Any whitespace before the first asterisk will cause the line not to be recognised as a comment and can cause a format error. The asterisk must be the first character in the line. In our example, lines 1 to 5 are arbitrary comment lines unused while processing the file.
Note: Blank lines in the file are not permitted and will cause a format error.
