Open Working Layer
Set a working layer
The Open Working Layer option to define a working layer. All section design work generated through the Section submenu will be placed in this layer.
Note
This option can only be used when in Plan View.
Instructions
- Select Geotech menu
- Select Section submenu
- Select Open Working Layer option

Layer information
Working name
Enter, or select from the drop-down list, the name of the working layer.
To create a new layer, enter the layer name. The layer name:
- may contain up to 40 characters.
- must begin with an alphanumeric character [0-9] or [a-z].
- cannot include spaces.
- can include hyphens [ - ], plus signs [ + ], underscores [ _ ], periods/dots [. ].
- can include the special characters of ÃÂÃÀÇÉÊÃÓÔÕÚÜÑ that are used in the Spanish and Portuguese languages.
To add to an existing working layer, the layer must be loaded onto the screen. If a working layer by the same name already exists in the currently open database, but has not been loaded, then you will be asked whether you want to select the layer or replace it.
Description
Enter a description to further describe the contents of this layer. The description can be up to 80 alphanumeric characters and may include spaces. If a description is not entered, then a default description will be used instead. If the chosen layer already has an assigned description, the description displays when the layer is selected. Existing layer descriptions can be overwritten.
Object visibility
Make all objects in the working layer visible
Select this check box to make all objects in the nominated layer visible when it is loaded into Vulcan. If this checkbox is not ticked, then the objects will be hidden when the layer is loaded into Vulcan
Select OK.
The chosen layer is then opened, and its name displays in the Status toolbar. If a new layer name is specified, then you will be asked whether or not you want to create the specified layer. You are then ready to create lines and begin your design work.
