Overview
This section describes the options under the Section Design submenu. The Section Design module is extensively used in rehabilitation.
The Section Design options allow you to perform design work in section, generate profiles of surfaces, and to calculate end-area volumes between surfaces.
This is made easy by the ability to:
- Automatically create multiple section lines.
- Generate profiles of multiple surfaces (both grids and triangulations) in the vertical plane of each section line.
- In a 2D section window, view any generated profiles, do all required design work, and automatically create cut and fill areas between the profiles of a design surface and an original surface.
- Do an end-area volume calculation based on cut and fill areas.
If a strata file exists for the current project, that is, <proj>strata.hzl, then it can be used to obtain surface names. This automates the generation of surface profiles. Although the strata file is designed for use with Integrated Stratigraphic Modelling software, one thing this file contains is a list of surfaces that make up the stratigraphy for a project, in sequence from topography down. This file can also contain a PLOT_ATTRIBUTES table from which the colour of profiles is obtained. See Appendix A for an example.
There is also another Section Design module under the Geotech menu. The main differences between the modules is shown in the table below.
| Geotech Section Design | Open Pit Section Design |
|---|---|
| GALENA Import/Export | Profiling triangulations and grid models |
| Profiling triangulations | Section lines generation for both triangulation and grid model surfaces |
| Section lines generation for triangulation models | Cut & Fill Calculations |
