Calculate True Thickness

Use this option to calculate the true thickness grid(s) while creating models. In many cases, the grids only measure the 'vertical thickness' by default, which can overestimate the actual seam thickness for dipping seams. However, the 'true thickness' measures the thickness orthogonal to the dip of the seam and therefore is more accurate. Also see Model Stratigraphy > Method.

Instructions

On the Grid Calc menu, point to Model, and then click Calculate True Thickness to display the following panel.

Single Grid

Choose this option to calculate true thickness for single grid.

Input structure grid

Choose a structure grid (*.srg, *.sfg) from the drop-down list or browse from another directory.

Input true thickness grid

Choose the thickness grid (*.tkg, *.stg) created during model creation.

Output true thickness grid

Choose an output grid (*.ttg) to save the calculated true thickness grid to.

Load true thickness grid after creation

Use this option to display the resultant true thickness grid on the screen.

Multiple Grids

Choose this option to calculate true thickness for multiple grids in a folder.

Input folder of structure and thickness grids

Choose a folder which consists of all structure and thickness grids from the drop-down list or browse to another directory.

Structure and thickness variables

The abbreviation ST refers to structure thickness. This is the thickness the first logged interval in a horizon to the last logged interval for the same horizon in a single drillhole.

The abbreviation TK refers to product thickness. This is defined as the logged structure thickness minus any logged, in-seam parting thicknesses.

Each thickness (TK or ST) and midburden (MD) grid generates and is checked to ensure that all grid node values are zero are greater before stacked on the reference surface.

It is possible to use a different Modelling algorithm when modelling Thickness grids.

Output folder of true thickness grids

Choose a folder where the resultant true thickness grids are to be saved.
